Fixed braces can be fixed to the front or the back of your teeth. Those that sit on the back of your teeth are called lingual (Incognito) braces.
Braces can also sit on the front of your teeth; and they can be white in colour so they are almost invisible.

Here is an example of a clear fixed brace. Fixed braces are generally better than systems such as Invisalign; the movements are more precise and predicable.
