It’s probably true to say that most people only associate orthodontics with younger people. That’s because we are quite used to seeing youngsters wearing those unmistakable metal braces to correct the alignment of their teeth and to improve their smile.
But that is definitely not the case!
Orthodontics is a specialist area of dentistry dedicated to the re-alignment of teeth and jaws, and to become qualified in this a dentist generally has to undergo about three years extra study. It really doesn’t matter what age you are, if you suffer from crooked teeth, gaps between your teeth, twisted teeth or misaligned teeth, an orthodontist can almost certainly help you.
At Carisbrook Dental we are seeing more and more adults coming to us to enquire about orthodontic treatment and in fact we have patients as old as 80 who call on us to help them improve the appearance of their teeth. If you are concerned about the look of your teeth why not contact us for a consultation appointment?
The other big misapprehension that most people have about orthodontics is that they will have to wear a conspicuous metal brace.
That certainly is not the case.
These days the science of orthodontics has dramatically advanced and now we can offer patients an impressive choice of braces that are practically invisible. For instance there are white ceramic fixed braces, Invisalign invisible removable braces and fixed lingual braces that are fitted to the inside of your teeth so that they cannot be seen. At Orthodontics Manchester we are happy to explain all the pros and cons about each of these options, but basically the white ceramic braces fit on the front of the teeth like the metal ones (except they are un-noticeable). Invisalign braces involve a series of clear plastic retainers that are removable – for instance when you are eating. The lingual/incognito braces are fitted to the inside of your teeth so that they cannot be seen. Many high profile celebrities use these to correct their teeth and produce their Hollywood smile – although you would never know that they were wearing them.
Whichever you choose your orthodontist will have them made specially for you and personally fit them to gently, slowly and effectively move your teeth into the correct position to create that lovely, even smile you’re wanting.
You can read more and view videos telling you about the various options we offer here on this website by going to Orthodontics Manchester, but best of all why not have a word with us to discuss what we recommend would be best for you.
