Looking after your children’s teeth

The key to a lifetime of happy smiles is looking after our dental health from a young age. At Carisbrook Dental we place enormous importance on caring for the teeth and gums of our youngest patients. So much so that we have a team dedicated to children’s dentistry.

Children’s dentistry at Carisbrook Dental

We believe that prevention is always better than intervention, which is why we want to be extra vigilant to ensure that your child always has a healthy smile.

Dental decay (caries) can occur in patients of all ages. However, there is an increased prevalence in children, who tend to consume more sugary foods and drinks. Whilst treating the decay is part of the solution, we educate our patients on how to maintain good oral health and help prevent further tooth decay.

Education about nutrition, toothbrushing advice, fluoride application and dietary habits are a vital part of children's dental appointments.

A positive experience

We want to ensure that a trip to the dentist is a positive experience, making our Manchester practice an enjoyable place for them to be from an early age.

We appreciate that children may be scared of the dentist and we empathise with that, we will never rush your children and will always treat them with respect. We will give your child and you time to make any decisions that may need to be made after we have provided all the necessary information.

Gentle sedation and The Wand

It’s understandable that unfamiliar dental surgeries may be daunting to little ones, so we make provision for children who may feel nervous.

Carisbrook Dental is one of only a few practices in Manchester to offer inhalation sedation for children. We also offer The Wand - a comfortable way of administering dental injections. Our aim is to make your child’s visit to us stress-free, guarding against the chance for dental phobia to occur as they grow up.

Frequently asked questions about children's dentistry

At what age should my child see a dentist?

We advise parents and guardians to bring their children for a dental examination as soon as their teeth begin to erupt. This helps us to monitor their oral health and ensure there are no problems as well as getting them used to the dental environment.

How can I prevent dental decay in my child’s teeth?

We’re very big on dental hygiene at our Manchester practice. We’d far rather prevent than intervene, and the younger a child is when they learn how to look after their teeth and gums, the more likely it is that they will have a healthier mouth.

Our friendly and helpful hygienists are there to assist your child in learning about dental hygiene. They’ll teach them how to effectively brush their teeth and all about the importance of flossing and brushing their tongue.

We also believe in the importance of fluoride in tooth decay prevention, we regularly apply fluoride to at risk children’s teeth to prevent cavities.
