Dental implants at a glance

Dental Implants help replace missing teeth and have now been around for almost 50 years. They can replace teeth lost due to trauma, dental decay, gum disease or naturally missing teeth.

Once placed into the jaw bone they can support either a false tooth/bridge or denture. The titanium implants integrate with the jaw bone and can provide as much strength and stability as regular teeth.

We can replace single teeth with a single dental implant or many teeth with more implants with dental bridges or dentures. They currently have a 95% success rate after 20 years in non smokers and 85% success rate in smokers.

Frequently asked questions about dental implants

What are dental implants made of?

Dental implants are made of medical grade titanium. They are inert and very few cases of allergies have ever been reported. Dental implants are manufactured from the same grade titanium as hip grafts and knee replacements.

Can anyone get dental implants?

Dental implants are not suitable for all patients. Those with a history of bad oral hygiene or gum disease will need to have any disease treated and have a healthy mouth before proceeding, as active gum disease is a high-risk factor to failure.

Once implants have been placed, oral hygiene will need to be kept to a strict standard. Additionally, smokers will be asked to quit totally or not smoke two weeks prior and after surgery to help prevent failures.

What is involved in the procedure?

Before you can have dental implants, you will need to have a CT scan or x-ray. This will determine the size and structure of your jawbone and allow your surgeon to select the correct implant for you. Dental implantation requires minor surgery; this will usually involve having local anaesthesia to numb the gum to prevent discomfort.

How much do dental implants cost?

Generally for a single implant and a crown the cost is approximately £2,850. For more complex cases like multiple implants, implant dentures and full implant retained bridges, these costs are bespoke. After your free implant consultation, our treatment coordinator will provide you with a written report, full cost estimate and we can discuss finance options with you, should you need them.

What technology do you use for dental implants at Carisbrook Dental?

Our investment in state-of-the-art CT scanning technology enables us to meticulously plan dental implants with a high degree of accuracy. Our advanced systems not only speed up the process but also minimise the risk of complications by identifying potential anatomical challenges. With prompt same-day assessments, we provide patients with peace of mind and a streamlined experience, eliminating the need for costly external scans and extended waiting periods.

I have been told I don’t have enough bone/ Can I still have dental implants with a bone graft?

At Carisbrook Dental, we have the luxury of a state of the art CT Scanner providing us with faster and more accurate diagnosis. CT Scanners can help us to determine how much bone you have and allow us to plan your dental implant treatment.

If your CT scan shows you do not have enough bone for an implant to be placed, we can provide bone grafting at our Manchester practice. Bone grafts are either grafts taken from yourself or from Bovine or coral sources. We can provide more information on bone grafting at your free consultation or your implant examination day.

How long do implants take to heal and what do I need to do during the healing process?

Once the dental implant placement has been completed, implants are typically ready to restore within 6 to 8 weeks.

On the day of the implant placement we advise patients to relax after their appointment. We do not recommend you go to the gym, smoke or drink any alcohol.

Afterwards, you might feel some slight discomfort, so we recommend you consume a soft diet, rinse with salt water and follow our post-operative instructions. A written post-operative care pack will be provided to you at the end of your appointment.
