How does
Invisalign work?
Invisalign is an innovative technique that uses a series of removable, clear plastic aligners. Worn over the top of your teeth, each set of aligners applies gentle, consistent pressure, to gradually move them into their new straight position.
- Each set of aligners should be worn for 2 weeks, only removing them to eat, drink or clean.
- Each new aligner you use will move your teeth further until they have straigntened and sit in their final position.
- You will need to visit your dentist or orthodontics specialistevery 6 weeks to ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned.
- The average time for Invisalign aligners to complete their
task is approximately 9 – 15 months.
Frequently asked questions about Invisalign
As your teeth move into their new position there is the possibility of some slight discomfort. This is most often likely when you change your aligners for a new set. However, as the process is gradual and the aligners are designed to be comfortable, any slight discomfort should be minimal and short-lasting. It also means of course that the aligners are doing their job, so treat any discomfort as a positive sign that can be easily alleviated with over-the-counter pain relief when necessary.
Invisalign aligners are made from FDA-approved, medical-grade material that has been proven safe for human use.
If you remember to always remove your aligners before eating and drinking then the chances of them becoming stained are minimal. We also recommend refraining from smoking and caring for your aligners appropriately. Our team will show you how to brush them.
Other than removing your aligners to eat, drink and brush your teeth, they should be worn at all times. To speed up the alignment process they should be worn for up to 22 hours a day, so even while you are asleep.
Invisalign treatment starts from £3,750. Every patient has unique needs, so we will be able to give you a more precise cost when we estimate your treatment duration, after a free initial examination. We can also advise on finance plans, to help you spread the cost.
While many patients are great candidates for Invisalign, it’s not necessarily the most suitable treatment for everyone.
