Why have porcelain veneers?
Patients choose to opt for porcelain veneers for a variety of reasons:
- Stained teeth: Which cannot be improved by teeth whitening or other methods can be improved by porcelain veneers which will cover up any existing stains on teeth
- Damaged teeth: Teeth can wear away for a variety of reasons, such as, through excessive grinding or because of too many sugary sweets or drinks which can leave the teeth chipped or broken. Porcelain Veneers can be used to repair these teeth.
- Gaps: Some people have unsightly gaps between their teeth, these can easily be closed using dental veneers and giving you a new confident winning smile.
- Crooked teeth: Braces are recommended for severely crooked teeth, though veneers can be used to cover over slightly crooked teeth to give a perfect looking smile.
Getting porcelain veneers usually requires three trips to the dentist.
The first appointment will be for a consultation where the dentist will ensure that porcelain veneers are appropriate and discuss the procedure. Impressions and x-rays may also be taken for planning at this stage.
The second appointment involves preparation of the teeth. To do this half a millimeter of enamel is carefully removed from the tooth, followed by an impression of your tooth/teeth which is sent to laboratory so the veneers can be created.
On the third appointment your new veneers will be fitted, they may need to be trimmed or adjusted. The teeth will be thoroughly cleaned and the veneers cemented into place to leave a beautiful winning smile.
If you are having a smile make over an additional stage maybe required. This stage involves preparing a diagnostic wax model of your projected results call a wax up. It lets our clients see the projected result before any tooth work is commenced. This stage helps plan your case and makes the results much more predictable and more importantly more beautiful. Dr Idrees has placed over 5000 veneers in the last 8 years.
Our Porcelain Veneer Work
Heather was unhappy with her current veneers and crowns. She had a course of tooth whitening followed by two veneers and a crown. The ceramic work was all porcelain and she is delighted.
