Fewer than one in four children visited their dentist last year

Shock report highlights how children’s teeth are being placed at grave risk

NINE MILLION! Yes, a staggering nine million children were unable to see a dentist last year and this is a hugely disturbing statistic, which could easily mean that today’s youngsters will be paying the price with serious dental problems for many years to come. It’s a frightening figure that we at Carisbrook Dental are seriously concerned about because of the unnecessary consequences involved. So much so we now have a dedicated ‘Children’s Dentist' together with a team that is available to take special care of children’s teeth. It means we are in a unique position to help children – right now – protect the health of their teeth and gums.

The recent report that we read stated that the NHS delivered 3.3 million courses of dental treatment to the under eighteens from April 2020 to March 2021. Believe it or not, but this is an incredible 70 percent down on figures for the previous year.

To put it bluntly, just a pitiful 23 percent of children managed to get a dental appointment last year, compared with 58.7 percent before the Covid crisis.

It goes without saying that this unnecessary neglect of children’s teeth means youngsters are missing out on vital dental examinations and treatment that could very well avoid the need for future fillings or extractions.

Even today, as things gradually return to normal, the British Dental Association says capacity remains embarrassingly low with around half of NHS practices in England still not meeting targets to hit 60 percent of pre-Covid levels.

At Carisbrook Dental, thanks to all the efforts we have made, we are leading the way with an impressively high level of dental appointments available without patients having to endure lengthy delays. These prompt appointments also include specialist dental services for children.

The other factor that many parents or guardians of young children will appreciate is that we are delighted to have the services of an expert ‘Children’s Dentist’ as part of our team.

Our ‘Children’s Dentist’, together with the other members of our team, possess all the skills and the abilities to help relax and help a young child on their visit to a dentist. In addition they also have access to Carisbrook’s special children’s oral sedation, pain-free dental injections using The Wand and of course their own unique way of treating children’s teeth with the minimum of stress or anxiety.

Despite the recent disturbing facts and figures about the availability of dental treatment for children, you can be totally confident that at Carisbrook Dental we can look after your children’s teeth whilst providing the ultimate care and consideration … and without what we believe are unnecessary delays.

If you are concerned about the health of your children’s teeth or if you are finding it difficult to arrange a dental appointment for your child then please do not hesitate to contact us.
