Stressed about going to the dentist?
Our sedation dentistry will ensure you feel completely calm and relaxed
Carisbrook Dental Care has been established for over 60-years and in addition to receiving numerous awards (including ‘Best Dental Practice in a Major City’) we’ve long been known as ‘The Gentle Dentist’. Even so, there are still some nervous patients who unfortunately always become stressed at the very thought of visiting their dentist. Don’t worry … if that description applies to you, then you can relax because at Carisbrook we offer sedation dentistry as a well-established means of helping to relax patients who still experience dental phobia.
As a matter of fact we offer three different sedation options: inhalation sedation for children, plus oral sedation and intravenous sedation that really do help to calm the nerves of anxious adult patients.
All three of our sedation dentistry options have been fully proved over many years and although you will remain fully conscious and co-operative; with the IV sedation it is extremely unlikely that you will remember much about your treatment. With the oral or inhalation sedation there could be a few memories.
Yes, without question our sedation dentistry is extremely effective and our dentists are fully trained in its application. We even have a specialist anaesthetist to assist with the most complex cases. So relax, you really do have nothing at all to worry about.
Having said that, our aim at Carisbrook Dental Care is to eventually wean patients away from sedation dentistry. As patients learn to trust us and realise just why we are called ‘The Gentle Dentist’, they come to accept that there is nothing at all to be anxious about. We are very pleased at our high success rate of encouraging patients to say no to sedation dentistry and we know for certain that they don’t ever regret their decision.
But going back to our three sedation dentistry options:
Inhalation Sedation is an extremely light form of relaxation used for young children who may be worried. It is breathed in through a flavoured nosepiece and it’s no surprise that it is also known as ‘Happy Air’.
Oral Sedation involves taking one tablet the night before your treatment and another about one hour before you visit our dentists. It really helps to calm your nerves and genuinely relaxes you.
Intravenous Sedation. Here we inject the sedative into the back of your hand and we recommend this approach for very nervous patients or for patients who are having quite complex treatment.
All three of our sedation dentistry options are one hundred per cent safe and have been used quite literally thousands of times over the years without any ill effects. So if you feel that you do require sedation dentistry then talk to us, you really do not have to worry.
There is one word of warning though. Nothing to do with the treatment or the sedation, but if you have opted for sedation dentistry then you must have someone to drive you home and we recommend that you relax for the rest of the day. On no account must you drive, operate machinery, use domestic appliances, drink alcohol, return to work or make important decisions.
Sedation dentistry is totally safe and we have countless patients who cannot thank us enough for helping them to relax, remain calm and not to experience any anxiety or stress during their treatment.
As we stated though, although we do all that we can to wean patients away from sedation dentistry, if you really feel you require it … then you can be confident that you’re right to place your trust in Carisbrook Dental Care.
