It’s the start of National Smile Month

How oral and dental hygiene is the first step to achieving a lovely smile

This year’s National Smile Month runs from 15th May through to 15th June and it is the UK’s largest and longest-running campaign to promote good oral and dental hygiene. At Carisbrook Dental, as the leading Manchester dental practice, we are delighted to support this cause and so over the next few weeks we will be dedicating our blogs to encourage everyone – young and old – to improve their own oral and dental hygiene routine, which will go a long way to helping you firstly to maintain a healthy mouth and secondly to ensure you have a beautiful smile. Oral and Dental Hygiene

Oral and Dental Hygiene[/caption]As a leading dentist we know just how important a lovely smile can be. Not only for your appearance, but also for your self-confidence and indeed your whole general health and wellbeing.People who have a ready, attractive smile are generally happier in life. They tend to be more confident, enjoy a better social life and all too often they also enjoy a more successful career. It’s all down to how other people perceive you and there is nothing like a lovely smile to help break down barriers and to promote friendship. The key to developing a nice smile is to ensure you maintain a good oral and dental hygiene routine. Here is what we, as a top Manchester dentist, recommend.

  1. Brush your teeth at least twice a day – as soon as you get up and just before you go to bed at night.
  1. Use a good fluoride toothpaste and don’t rinse it off after brushing.
  2. Avoid eating too many sugary snacks cut back on sweet drinks and especially sweet, fizzy drinks.
  3. Do not smoke.
  4. MOST IMPORTANTLY – VISIT YOUR DENTIST REGULARLY

Your dentist and dental hygienist will keep a close eye on the health of your teeth and gums. If they do spot any potential problems they can ensure that these do not become serious issues. They will also provide expert, professional advice on oral and dental hygiene, including helpful cleaning advice and they will check for signs of gum disease and mouth cancer.Your dentist or dental hygienist can also help you to gain a lovely smile because once they have checked the condition of your teeth they can recommend a number of important treatments that are all designed to produce that beautiful smile you’ve always dreamt of.These could include: white fillings, orthodontics to correct any misaligned, overcrowded or crooked teeth; crowns, dentures, bridges or implants to replace broken or missing teeth. They could recommend professional teeth whitening treatments that can only be undertaken by qualified dentists. Other treatments they could discuss with you include: porcelain veneers, gum contouring and teeth reshaping. But each of these is only a subject for discussion once your dentist has diagnosed the condition of your teeth. There is so much and there are so many ways in which your dentist can help you achieve that perfect smile … but more about that in next week’s National Smile Month blog.If you would like to discuss your smile or your oral and dental hygiene why not arrange a FREE CONSULTATION at Carisbrook Dental?
